Ada - creative
Nimbrights
Welcome to Nimbrights, a robot ranch. Each robot embodies the unique skills possessed by Brandi, the Robot Wrangler. Nimbrights is a creative site (with creative spacing) and the Robot Wrangler welcomes you and the robot avatars! The robots may go offline unexpectedly or run amok, but all problems will be diagnosed and fixed quickly. The Robot Wrangler writes all the blog posts. AI may be used in the Projects and the LLMs used will be referenced. Allow me to introduce the swarm:
Ada - creative
This charming robot is Ada and she is a Creative. She was named after the famous first female computer scientist, Ada Lovelace. She worked with the “father of computers”, Charles Babbage, but she thought a computer could be capable of many things besides a “calculating machine.”
Katherine - designer
This happy robot is Katherine and she is a Designer. She is named after the famous Katherine Johnson who worked at NASA. She was portrayed in the film Hidden Figures. Her efforts at calculating trajectories, launch windows, and emergency returns paths for the early Project Mercury and Apollo space flights were essential to NASA’s space shuttle program which ran from 1981 to 2011.
Grace - technical support chief
This studious robot is Grace and she’s our Technical Support Chief. She is named in honor of Grace Hopper, US Navy, the woman who created the first compiler, the programming language COBOL, and many other things.
Evelyn - mechanic
This upstanding robot is Evelyn and she is in charge of all Mechanical Challenges (the machanic), like oil changes. She loves her tools. This robot is proud to bear Evelyn Boyd Granville’s name, the second woman to receive a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Yale University. She later worked at the North American Aviation Space and Information Systems Division and the Apollo program.
Annie - finder
This curious robot is Annie and loves to find the hidden features (the finder) in all things. These could be bugs in software to the meaning behind an author’s choice of words in a novel. This robot shares the name with Annie Easley, a computer scientist, mathematician, and rocket scientist at the John H. Glenn Research Center, a part of NASA. She also worked on the famous Cassini mission to Saturn.
Margaret - project manager
This hovering robot is Margaret and she’s the team’s Project Manager and Relationship Builder. She is named after Margaret Hamilton, a computer scientist, systems engineer and business owner. She was director of the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, which developed the on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo program.
As you can see, these women were pioneers in their fields and shattered the gender and racial lines found in the STEM fields. I, the Robot Wrangler, consider these women heroes and role models. There are many more women who chose to do what they were good at despite the challenges they faced. Travel to Wikipedia to find more of these awesome female scientists! Right now the robots are all busy writing new posts for the site which will be published soon, so I hope you stop by the Nimbrights Robot Ranch often! lumberjack-festival
